Colt Ace---Recoil Spring Weight
Can anyone advise what the correct recoil spring weight is for a Colt Ace?

Hello is it an ACE or" service model ace" in other words does it have A floating chamber? 0 -

This is a pre-war Ace, no floating chamber. I believe it was made about 1933 or 34.0 -
Hello this is a very light spring and the recoil spring guide has 8 leather washers/buffers To the best of my measurement it is about 5-6 pounds However the coils are closer together at one end then the other . as you know these units are collectable but if you want to shoot yours and you have the leather buffers I would see what WOLFF has and start with a 7pound or so. The way I tune my match 45's It will also work on a 22 is to start with a a load that tests well on a ransom rest with a fairly heavy spring. Then load 1 shell in the magazine and shoot out of the rest and in a offhand mode if the slide stays back after this one shot I go one spring heavier until the slide the does not say back at this point the load does not have enough recoil to fully work the slide and I go back to the last spring that fully functions the gun . too light a spring beats up the gun too heavy gives function problems remember 22's come in standard VEL. that is what I would shoot in your ace.
