How much is my glock 17 worth
I recently purchased a Glock 17 at my local gun show about 4 months ago. This was the first handgun I purchased when I turned 21. The gun shows no signs of being fired but a few times. The gun is in more than excelent excelent shape. The serial number is really low ADR... I went to a local gun shop and they went crazy over the excelent shape it is in and had everyone look at it. All the serial #'s on the parts match too. The owner wanted me to sell it to him or trade it for a gun in the store. I said I would hold off. I was wondering what the gun is worth. I have not fired it since I have owned it and won't. I was told to leave it alone and it is going to gain value. I am treating it as a collector gun. Any input is greatly appreciated. around here i see them going exc cond for about 400-425. I paid 375 for a very good-almost exc. 17. im curious what serialized parts you are referring to. glock 17s arent really going to get collectable unless hillary gets elected in '08 [:D] 0 -
The serialized parts that all match are the slide, stock, and barrel all match. The guys at the gun shop said that it is probably worth around $600 and to a glock collector they said probably about $650. Because they said the gun shows no wear at all even in all the normal easily worn places like the barrel. The barrel is in prestine condition inside and out. 0 -
I've got a hunch someone is pulling your leg. If they will give you $600 then you should take it and go out and buy another one and pocket the change.

I agree with Jake. Take the money and run. Fact is, the dealer will not make you such an offer. If you look hard, you'll find 17s for 350 to 400. 0 -
Glock s are probably the least collectable firearm there is. The are utilitarian, and as such are intended to be used. Collectables generally are attractive to look at(almost art like), are limited in production numbers(glocks are like A$$#0les-everyone has one), or are historically significcant.
$350-400 retail, I wouldn't expect a dealer to give more than $250 on trade.

Glocks going up in price and becomming a collectoers item??? Highly doubtful. I own 7 Glocks and that includes one I bought in 1985 serial # *b*** yep a 2 letter Glock. I am also a Glock armorer since 1989 and buy Glocks as guys leave for other depts. I generally buy the gun, ssIII holster, mag pouch 3 17rd mags and rig for about $275.00 to $325.00 the most I ever paid for one was $500.00 to a widow of a fallen officer (overpaid because she would not accept a monitary donation)I have them in every configuration including 3lb pull and Marine cups on all of them (never know when you might have to shoot underwater)The guy at the store was probably busting your stones, call his bluff and go for the trade. Remember, your going to give up one of the most versatile firearms you'll ever own. Glocks a collector item....Not likely. BTW I have never came across a Glock that the numbers did not match, and I've worked on a lot of guns.

I disagree. Of course Glocks can be collectors items. The Colt Model P was an issue military gun and never intended to be anything but a service arm. The same thing can be said of the Model 1911 and Model 1911A1, who many also describe as ugly. Service pistols, millions of them, never be worth anything. Somehow, the passage of time has changed that.
I know there is some collector interest in the earliest versions of the Glock, apparently from those rabid Glock fans who worship at the Glock alter, believing it is the best firearm ever designed. They apparently want to have an evolution chain of all the versions, and will pay more for the earliest ones. I also have a 17 I bought in 1985 just to see what all the fuss was about. I still do not know. It points high, has no safety, blows up with unusual frequency and is ugly to my eye. (Glock fans, no need to challenge my opinion. I know it is not shared by hundreds of thousands of satisfied owners.)
Still, I would call the dealer's bluff just to see what would happen. If all you want is a shooter, the later Glocks are MUCH improved over the earliest versions, and you can buy almost two for the price mentioned.0
