What price range are you looking at?

Probably no more than $1000. I will buy the best quality I can afford. If $800 buys junk and $1200 buys something nice, I'll spend $1200.

For 1000.00 to 1200.00 dollars you can get into some Generation 2 night vision. Upgrading to Gen 3 would be almost another 2000.00 to 3000.00 depending on brand and setup. If you are really serious about observing game at night I would hold off and save up for Gen 3 equipment. I have used PVS-14s (the same type the military is using right now) in the field and now I know why they are 4,000.00 We used them to navigate under only star light and it was day time with PVS-14s. You can get Gen 3 stuff for about 2500 to 3000. Night Vision is the same as rifle scopes, you get what you pay for.

Here are some monoculars you may want to check out for the price range you are looking at. Keep in mind the 4th Generation stuff is hitting the market right now so Gen 3 stuff will drop. I am waiting for the PVS14s to become a lil more affordable. [:D]

Also with goggles and bino style night vision you have a lot better dept perception than mono tube ones.
