Shotgun Barrel Length
I was thinking about getting another hunting shotgun, but the model I want seems to mostly be available with a 24'' or 30'' barrel. I'd rather not get the 30'' it's a semi auto by the way.
So how much difference would there be between the 24'' and a 26" or 28''.

My buddies son shoots a youth model shotgun with 22 inch barrels and does excellent with it. We were wondering just how much muzzle velocity he may be losing compared to a 26 or 28 inch barrel. Thanks. Dave 0 -
Shoot the gun that feels the best> Good luck.
I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.0 -
Barrel length affects balance, sightplane and swing. It dosn't affect velocity, pattern size, effective range etc.
If your hunting conditions require you to swing in very tight quarters, a longer barrel might interfear by hitting brush would be the only concern/reason to go shorter.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
learn to shoot it and learn its ways. youll do fine. heck, hunters have been using 26" bbls for hunting for 100 years and do just fine. 28" is just fine. anything is. you just got to get to know it.
