That's way high for the gun. They're in the gunlist all the time NIB for around $1K and I've seen them as low as $6-700. The earlier guns had large letter slides and quality control was great in the early 70's and started declining in the late 70's. The earlier gun you get, the more likely the workmanship on it will be better. The early guns came in a plain box without the styrofoam liner (gun was wrapped in wax paper in just put in the box. They are great guns but you can definately find one much cheaper than this one.

I agree series 70 started with SERIAL 70N01001 the early one are better fit and finish NIB if you look and have some time should be about $1000.00 quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

I saw one in the box and in perfect condition at the Denver gun show last week for $750. Unfortunately I didn't have the $750.

Thanks for the input. I had a feeling this was way high. I have plenty of time and will keep shopping. Definitely want an older one.

perry shooter...Is that starting serial number range for all Series 70 1911's and does the Gold Cup Match model also fall within that range, or does the Gold Cup have a serial number range all it's own?
