Pre 64, Win Mod 70 - Can't get the bolt back in

Took the bolt out to reblue and now cannot get it back in. I can slide it in with the handle at about 2 o'clock, but then the rear part hits. It seems as if it needs to rotate but how? HELP?? By the way the Blue Wonder is wonderful and the True-oil rules!

    Sounds like the bolt is in "fired"position. Not being in the gun, cocking it pfresents a minor problem. The idea is the slender piece of metal that has dropped into the notch in the back of the bolt body needs to be pulled back & then turned so that it sets in the slight notch at the top of the diagonal cut. This can either be done by holding the bolt so the part of the firing pin that contacts the sear is against a flat,non scratching surface, then push and twist. This is generally frustrating til yhou get the hang of it, the other option is to take pliers, put a piece of material to prevent scratching the firing pin, pull back, twist so it goes into the cocked position. To avoid htis in the future, cock the bolt and place the safety in the middle position before removing the bolt from the rifle.

    That's what I like about this forum, there is always someone that has been through it before or who has expertise in the area of concern. I suspected that some pulling and twisting was needed but was unsure of just what was involved. I appreciate the explanation on how to avoid this in the future too. Thanks for taking the time.

    Been there and done that. It's alot easier to do it right the first time.

    You may want to invest in a firing pin removal tool. It will do what you needed done in a very gentle way. Pliers are just to scary for me.
    You should remove it (the firing pin ) and clean it out every few years anyway.
    Brownells sells them.

    It's in! And I think I will get a firing pin removal tool too. Thanks again for the good advice guys. I am sure this will come up again and now there is this record to help others down the road.
