CHILEAN MAUSER CALIBER?
I recently acquired a military Mauser rifle, marked CHILENO MODELO 1895 MUNUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN, the guns total length is approx. 37.5 inches, the barrel is approx.18 inches, it has what may be a serial no. B2220, it has a drop type floor plate and sling rings on the side the rear has what appears to be a saddle ring. I thought these guns were all 7.57 caliber, this gun has a good bore, but a bullet measuring .284 slides through the barrel, it appears to be a .308 bore size, any ideas on what this gun is chambered for? the barrel is original.

I don't know what you've got there, but the Chilean Model 1895, in all of it's forms was/is 7x57 (.284) so if you have 7mm (.284) bullets that are dropping through the bore the rifle has been rebarreled, maybe to 8mm. You say the bore is good so there is no 7mm barrel that could be shot out so bad that a bullet would drop through and still look good.
If you don't have the tools to measure the bore, take the rifle to a gunsmith and get it checked. What ever you do don't try firing the thing until you know what your dealing with.

My advice to you is to Make a Chamber Casting......Then Mic the Casting......

This is not a stock 1895. The one I have is 54in in length and .284 in caliber. I know of some that were rebarrelled to 8mm as well as .308. They made carbine versions of this rifle as well, but AFAIK they were 7mm as well. 0
