38 super for 1911
I have recently been offer a colt 38 super converstion slide for what seem to be a good deal. has anyone ever seen a converstion slide chamber for 38 super? the finsh seems to be in 95%.
On the side of the side it says:
Colts MK IV/Series 70
Government Model
.38 Super Auto Caliber
on the other side it says:
Colt's Government Model
it has a Wichita fully adjustable sight.
Also it looks like an extention as added to the slidethat has a built in porting, there is a port on each side of the front sight and they are each about 1.5 inches long. the estension looks like it adds about 1 inch in lenght to the slide. it looks like the front slide on the original slide was removed, the meatle there has a brass color to it.
any info on this conversion slide would be greatly appreciated.
thanks for your time

Are you sure it's a conversion and not just a slide pulled off of a production .38super frame? And I'm sure the "extension" as you call it is a custom barrel bushing that has been ported. The only "conversions" I am familiar with from Colt are the "ACE" conversions for .22lr. I could be wrong though.

Hello I agree with RIDOWNS3 This is Probably a slide that was taken off a pistol The gold color is also proably a TIN plateing go look at LOWES and compare with this same coating on drill bits . With a 1911 frame You have a choice of many TOP halfs in different cal. from 30 mauser to 9 MM to 38 super to 45acp all you have to do is change the top half and install the proper ejector in the frame you don't even have to "CROSS PIN" the ejector I have one frame with 4 top halfs that I can change with out any tools. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN" 0 -
i am very interested in the value of this slide. Tonight i went to my local gun shop and he said $250-$300, but he wasn't very sure. 0 -
Is there a barrel included with the slide? If not you're gonna have to find an extra long one and have it ported to match the slide ports. 0 -
Many years ago there were .38 Super conversions being done for competetive pistol shooters to use in the "centerfire" catagory. The Clark conversion was probably one of the best and most famous. 0 -

Were those marked as "Colt"? i.e. were they colt parts modified or are they marked as "Clark" parts?
