m1 garand ammo feeding issue
I would like the thoughts of you experts out there on my m-1 garand not feeding the entire clip;it seems to me that the elevator that supports the clip and eventally kicks it out stops mid- way through the firing of four rounds, consistenly.I then need to manually cycle the fifth round before firing. Got any Ideas? I was thinking perhaps the operation rod spring is too weak , Anyone thinking like me?

the op. rod spring may be weak or it could be a bent op. rod. to check the op. rod remove the spring and follower and reinstall in the stock and move the op. rod back and forth, any binding or rubing on the stock means the op. rod is bent. 0 -
I don't understand the problem you are describing. Does it extract & eject the case from the 4th round? Does it chamber the 5th round? Does the bolt stop at the rearward end of its travel?
I'm thinking a bad follower arm or follower. You need to strip it & examine all parts for wear or damage.
You may want to buy "The M1 Garand: OWNER'S GUIDE" by Scott A. Duff. This inexpensive book will tell you just about everything that the shooter of an M1 rifle needs to know, including terminology.
