I'm taking it that you are talking about a smooth bore slug barrel ? if so them yes the 2 biggest reason for having them would be , better sighting and being able to sight your gun in , ie lots of times when using a field barrel with just the bead sight , you will hit some where other that where you are aiming , with a barrel equiped with rifled sights you can adjust your point of aim to match where she shoots [;)]

    Hello "calamitywood[:)]

    1. For Smooth-Bore slug barrels with "rifle-sights", I am voting with "gskyhawk". I don't care if you are using # 9 shot or triple 000 buckshot, rifle sights are much better than a "bead" on the front of the barrel. If you decide you need one "HEdouble-hockeysticks" of a "punch" in a shooth bore barrel, then go to www.dixieslugs.com and look at the "predator" slug. Be aware, this thing has one H#@L of a recoil and will penetrate most of the walls in your house and is NOT a good "defenensive" shell for use inside of your house. But in a smooth bore with "rifle-sights" it can take down a moose or elk with ease at nearly 100 yards.

    2. If you are talking about a "real" rifled barreled shotgun barrel, then once again go to www.dixieslugs.com. The "terminator" has absolutely unbelievable penetration. Not good for inside the house "defensive" use. These things will shoot completely through a coastal marsh hog "end to end".

With either type barrel, get a couple of 2X4's and a scratched/dinged/dinted sheet of paneling. Usually, you can get then from "Lowes", "HomeDepot" or other such store for a very reasonable price, since they can't sell it for use in a house. Set it up with the 2X4's buried in the ground and the paneling nailed or screwed to the 2X4's horizontally. Measure the distance from where you keep the shotgun to the bedroom door. This is the distance you would be away from the paneling. Dividide the paneling up into three areas with masking tape. Try a load of #8's on one, a load of #6's on another one, and a load of #4's on the last one. The one that cuts the SMALLEST hole is the one you want to keep the shotgun loaded with.

If you have children, do NOT keep one "up the spout". The pump shotgun should have to be "cycled" in order to put a shell into the chamber.
The "sound" of a pump shotgun being cycled is more than enough to make most intruders decide that they have an appointment somewhere else and they are late as it is.

My Best Regards To You And Yours[:)]

here is one , I'm sure there are others listed , remington also makes a smooth bore with rifled sights that also takes their rem-chokes, if you found one like that you could use different choke tubes in it
