Winchester model 70 XTR .222Rem
I own a Winchester Model 70 XTR in .222 Rem. It has a heavy varmint barrel, wood stock,and a blued finish. I have not been able to find any entry in a blue book for information about the rifle or it's value. Does anyone have any information that you could provide concerning this rifle? What is the XTR designation? The rifle's finish is about 85-90%. It has been used but not abused. I bought the rifle used and it shoots like a dream. This is the type of rifle that you would never trade or sell. I enjoy shooting it and is a nice rifle for beginners to become accustomed to shooting centerfire. I don't have any idea about the price to put on your rifle but I know it was offered in the late 1970's along with the 22-250 and 243. The XTR is a designation given because of the finish being a little nicer, stock style and checkering pattern. They were a little fancier than the rest of Winchesters line at the time. Hope this helps a little. If you can find a 1979-80 gun digest they show it listed to retail at $293.95.

This is from the 2004 Standard Catalog of Firearms.I also found in in the Blue Book 17th edition and the 21st edition as a foot note at the bottom of the page under Model 70.
