Marlin SS 45-70
Has anyone had any experience with this rifle. Good, bad, ect.

I have a blued one (1895 Guide Gun)that may be the most inherently accurate factory gun I own. I can only assume that the stainless version is that much better?! I'm not aware of a single soul that has purchased one of these and regretted it. I encourage you to go the 1895 G route!

Great brush gun needless to say. If its ported make sure you use hearing protection because the sucker is way too loud. Only problems Ive heard are the pointed rounds not feeding well.

MFI...pointed rounds?!?! This is a tube gun and not likely to react well to pointed bullet tips on the primer in front of it. Do you mean spitzer shaped cast lead? Those ARE going to be difficult to work with as the c.o.l. has to be kept below "2.57 or it won't make it from the tube to the chamber...been there, done that and had to completely disassemble the gun to get the round off the lifter! I am fond of a Bonus Bullet pill that is round/flat nosed, 455 gr. Gas Checked lead and performs so accurately it's hard to believe. The blunt nose really doesn't seem to be an issue in terms of accuracy.

Ive got the 1895 cowboy lever action. Very very nice weapon. 45-70 gives a good kick--wouldn't suggest shooting in a T-shirt.
My opinion--a lever action marlin in any caliber is a nice weapon--45-70 just ensures you get the job done.0 -

i had one in .450 for a short time. bought it when local gun store went out of business for almost cost, then got good offer on it. i wouldnt hesitate to buy another one in 45/70. these are great shooting guns. 0 -

Have two of them in the blued version. One is pre-safety straight grip and the other is post-safety pistol grip. Love them both. Since I hand load for them, I can tailor the ammo to fit a very wide range of usage. Have fun. 0 -
I got my 1895 today and I've only shot it a few times, but I can tell that I'm going to love this gun. It has a little recoil but its not any worse than a 30-06. Matter of fact, my 95lbs son (he's a skinny 14 yr old wrestler) shot it today and he said it wasn't as bad as he thought. 0 -
Marshall Stanton, over at Beartooth Bullets, has a 525 grain bullet made just for the 1895. It isn't cataloged yet, you have to ask for it. It is the most accurate bullet I have shot out of my Marlin. It has noticable recoil, but it hits like a freight train.
