Ruger's Super Redhawk .44 mag - opinions?
I am thinking of buying a used Ruger Super Redhawk, 44 mag, 7 1/2 inch barrel, stainless. It was hardly used and I am thinking of using it to use for whitetail hunting and general target fun. Does anyone care to share their opinions regarding reliability, accuracy and overall dependability? Almost NIB for $400.

I had just the opposite reaction to Soopershot's. At one time I owned two Redhawks, one with the 7-1/2 inch barrel the other with the 5-1/2 inch barrel. I hated them and wound up selling them both. I didn't like the way they felt in my hand, didn't like the shape or feel of the grip and didn't like the feel of the trigger. I must say that I thought the 5-1/2 inch barrel had a better feel, but, not enough to keep it. I have no problem with other Ruger handguns, either single actions or double actions. 0 -
Iroquois Scout : it sounds like you had the Redhawk not the Super redhawk that coltnutz is talking about , there is a lot of difference between the 2 guns ,
coltnutz-- Super Redhawks are selling new in the mid $500 range , so if you can get it for about 400 you will be doing very well,
the Super Redhawk will take anything you can feed it and ask for more,, fine allround gun , easy to scope , if anything they are make heavier than need be ...... one thing about it at 400 if you don't like it you will have no problem getting your money back out of it [:D]0 -

Does anyone realize that the Stainless RedHawk weighs more than the Super RedHawk and the super comes with scope rings.[:)]

there is a 7-1/2" Redhawk that also comes with rings , the only real difference is that on this model both rings sit on the barrel [:D] 0 -

You're right, but the weight is not figured in.So it would weigh even more than the Super RedHawk.[:)]0 -
OK...there has to be one in every crowd, so here I go! I generally like Rugers Blackhawks, Redhawks, SuperRedhawks etc. and have had largely great results from them. I may, however, be the only person in the Western hemisphere who has had a SuperRedhawk come apart on them. Nothing more exciting than touching off a 44 mag round and watching the axis pin, cylinder and associated hardware go downrange in the same general direction as the bullet. To say I was nonplussed would be the understatement of the century. Before you even ask...Remington factory loads. The gun (a friends) had about 2000 rounds through it at the time, so it being long in the tooth or shot out does not seem to be an issue. The best answere my friend could get was that there was a casting flaw in the retention screw and or axis pin, and ruger more than made it right by him as the pistol came back essentially factory blueprinted and looking better than it did when bought new. Ruger really stands behind what they produce (in MY experience ), but the reputation the SuperRedhawk has for strength may be a tad overstated. Any company of this type is only as good as the WORST gun they ever produced; I think the customer service Bill recieved though more than made up for this one "bad apple". I reccommend the gun, just don't suffer under the assumption they are either perfect or indestructable, as you will likely pay for that assumption dearly if prudent loading proceedures and periodic inspection are not adhered to.
