Hello the 22 smooth bore guns vary in price so much because IMHO the colleable guns"WINCHESTER AND IN SOME CASES REMINGTON" were made in small numbers compared to the same model in a regular barrel. Most of these guns were shot quiet a bit so to find one in better than fair/good condition is hard . Thus the high price other makes MOSSBURG etc don't have much collector interest and 22 shot is pricey. Where a father & son used to go out and shoot MINI SKEET in years past now the kids play computer games . The guns shoot great as far as pattern goes and you would be amazed at short ranges what they can do . Out of a rifled barrel in the same gun this pattere is junk.

61's are the best. i own one and have done extensive studies on smoothbores. 10 to 15 yds is max effective range with #12 dust shot. 61's are counterbored about 3" back from the muzzle to give a sorta patterning effect to the shot as it leaves. that is a great advantage over rifled bores or straight bores shooting shot. as we know, rifling spins it out too fast. i can break skeet targets with a 61 on stations 1, 7, and 8 only. anything else is too far. these guns were designed to kill varmits at close range w/o ruining row crops, so power is at a minimum.

I've been looking for years for a Remington Nylon 10 in smoothbore. Not much luck, though, as these are the absolute rarest of the entire Nylon series.

Men, like bullets, go farthest when they are smoothest.

I recently picked up a 61 Winchester and its lots of fun. It has the pre war counterbore and patterns repeadly with good results on creek rats up to 20'. They look like a miniture model 42 410. Find one and buy it. They will only go up in value. They made very few, Im told about a thousand. If you want a economy smoothbore the reminton 580 is a great one-but hard to find.
    theres a 61 on gunbroker auctions #25259865
