Saiga 12GA question
Would a Saiga 12ga make a good gun for pheasant hunting? Has anyone owned one and used them for such a purpose? I have an ak semi auto and that system is durable beyond comprehension.I just worry about the difficulty of hitting a flying bird with it since the gas operatng is on top of the barrel instead of below like on most guns. I would like to baby my Belgian Browning A5 Magnum by retiring it to clay shooting and fair weather hunting and would like to get a real workhorse that I wouldnt mind beating up on or taking out in poor weather.

I can think of no reason why the saiga 12ga would not work well for pheasent quail or dove. My 2 cents [8D]

You might look around at the Charles Daly and the newly arriving CZ semi auto's. Functionally, I agree fully with gap1916, but they always appeared a little clumsy and heavy. I tried Sp. Clays once with a SPAS and just couldn't get the hang of rising/falling targets with a pistol grip. But if it fits you, you don't mind lugging the beast around and you can hit with it, should work OK. 0 -
These things would be light compared to my Browning A% magnum. It weighs about 10 pounds with the synthetic stocks I have on it! I feel like I am on a death march walking through thick dredge ditches with that piece of artillery. 0
