If this is thew same Maunz I am familiar with, I am familiar with him due to his close relationship with the Smith Ltd. M14 rifles. I have one of those. You should be able to extract some information on Maunz, his M14 rifle builds, and the relationship between him and Springfield Armory on the following site (look at the book portion of the site, M14 Rifle and Development).

Look just past 1/3rd the way down on the "M14 Rifle and Development" site I posted, you will see a section titled "Karl Maunz, H&R Gun Co., and Smith, Ltd."
Oh, I have the Smith Ltd. serial number 210 listed on this site, you may also note that I contributed to this book in the "magnetic particle inspection" section. My Smith Ltd was built using all the National Match goodies in USGI National Match configuration, with TRW NM barrel. As stated in the article, these rifles were marketed at Camp Perry shoots. My particular rifle was built to qualify the original owner to "Master" ranks. It is an interesting rifle to me, in that it is strictly USGI National Match configuration, not the same as the commercially produced NM rifles with Kreiger barrels, double lugged receivers and such. Neat gun, to me, and since they made less that 250 of them, I am really happy to have something reasonably scarce, that others don't have.
Nothing like a little pedigree....
