Need help with Ruger Disassembly!
I have a Ruger MKII that I can't get apart. I read the manual, made sure it was empty, pulled trigger, flipped out the little bar on mainspring housing, pull it out and away but thats as far as I can get. The MS housing drops down maybe an eighth of an inch then hangs up. I can't figure this out. I even tried hitting the bolt stop with a wooden dowel. I'm 18, and the only one in the family that hunts and shoots. My dad thinks every gun maker is out to get me. What might help, short of sending it back to the factory? I've put about 600 rounds through it without cleaning now. Lately it has been jamming, I suppose due to all the dirt. Help me out guys and gals!

Bill, I can't help because I have the same problem, just wanted to let you know the gun is probably ok, they are just complicated to understand. Someone will be by to help you. I can usually get mine apart and back together, but I have to study the instructions every single time.

The best way to clean a MkI or II is never strip it to clean.
It's just not necessary.
Take the grips off and clean it with Gun Scrubber and a toothbrush.
Clean the bore.
Then give it a good oiling.

Bill, I have the same model, Shoot it as much as possible then spray action cleaner in it, taking apart is not really necessary. It is tricky to take apart and put back together. I find that the spray cleaner does a goos job.

point the barrel down towards the floor, pull the trigger again and hold it to the rear as you give the guns a few small taps anywear in the grips area , this should cause the hammer to fall forward and the link to come away from the MS , now try to pivot the MS as farup towards the rear sight as it will go , then give it a sharp pull straight down 0
