    Hi Martin,
For what it's worth I have had a 77/22 for quite a while and absolutely love it.
Marlins are a good rifle too, but the 77/whatever just looks nice and trim like a scaled down rifle should.

Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

Either one will do a great job. Be sure and take a look at the winchester 9217 lever. Great fun and super shooter.

I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

the Marlin will most likely will out shoot the Ruger and should be a little cheaper , the Ruger has a mag that is flush with the stock,, where as the Marlin sticks down about an 1-1/2"., the Ruger comes with darn good scope rings where you need to buy rings for the Marlin... either will do the job , just kind of depends on which you like better ,

myself i sold my Marlin and tried a New England arms in .17HMR , didn't like it , so sold it and now have a CZ 452-2E America, this one I really like , it looks good with its hardwood stock , has nice bluing , and flat out shoots [:D], cost for the CZ was $ 339

both are real nice. I guess it depends on your budget. I have one of each on GB auctions.

Unless you have decided for sure you want a bolt-action,I would suggest the Ruger 10/22 magnum. Just buy a barrel in .17HMR and you will have "two" nice guns for not much more than the price of one.

I have the Ruger 77/17 and am very pleased with it. No wind and its a tack driver at 200 yards. Enjoy.
