quote:why not take this ballistic tip style round and put it in a conventional rimfire case to fit your standard rimfire firearm.

The ballistic tip style bullet needs one thing, Speed- you will not get enough out of a 22 lr or 22 mag to take full advantage of that bullet types potential.

Also, the .17 has another advantages Fast, Flat, and for pelt hunters
    little damage.

Just bought a gun in Mach 2 a few days ago. I'm taking it to the range Monday or Tuesday and will come back for a range report.

I believe that the cartridge OAL would also be a factor.

To maintain the same length as the 22lr or 22mag you would need a shorter case or the bullet would have to be seated further down into the present length case. And in either case that would reduce the case capacity.

So if you couple reduced case capacity with a heavier bullet, even with the new "wonder powders" there would probably only be limited improvement.

Remember the 17HMR and 17M2 both use significantly lighter bullets than their parent cartridges.

Anyway ... that's my "brain cramp" on the subject.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!
