Trying to find Citation or Trophy model 102 or 103
I haven't had much luck trying to find a Citation or Trophy 102 or 103 and am hoping someone can give me some pointers on what to look for. I've noticed that most Supermatic listings do not contain a model munber.
I bought a Citation, which turned out to be model 107. While not a bad gun at all and I am keeping it, I find that I prefer the slant grip by far.
Is there a way to recognize the model number by the serial number or something along those lines?

Hello Yes I can give you madel # by serial # but if you find one for sale ask if "ML' military grip or slant grip Be aware that the 102 with LONG Barrels "SPACE GUNS" had both front and rear sight on the barrels and short barrels had rear sight on the slide If you really want a cream da la cream get a slope grip "VICTOR" It has both sights on a rib you can remove to put on a red dot sight and then switch back when you want to send your kids to college by selling the gun. 0 -
i could type a whole book explaining the designs, but basically, 102' 103's & 104's are slant grip guns. the givaway is these guns will have round EAGLE MEDALIAN inserts in the grips. even the plastic grips had these medalians. hi std switched to the 1911 style military frame with the 106 series in 1965. from then on, all guns were 1911 style guns except for the slant grip victor($$$) in 1974. 1911 designed guns are the 106/107/NUMBERED/ML/G/SH series guns. lower grade guns such as your field kings and fixed sight models continued to be slant grip all the way up to 1977. key to these is FIXED SIGHTS. the grips on slant grip guns got TRIGGER MEDALIANS after 1966-68 era. thats the discerning feature to look for. the guns you are looking for are common. finish is what seperates trophy from citation. trophy was the higher polish. ALWAYS check the gun for matching serial numbers on the frame and slide. they MUST match to be original. otherwise, the gun has been parted together, which is easy to achieve since the parts were so well built. you could swap out everything with another gun and the gun would work. hope this helps. call anytime for advice. i find these guns all the time and can tell a lemon a mile away.[:)] oh...and with this post...after 5 years of waiting, i become an advanced member!

Are the barrels interchangeable between 102/103/104/107? I ask because I have a 107 with 3 barrels (Volquartsen, HS and something with just an eagle on it) and was wondering if I could get the 102 space gun and change the barrel to one I already have.
Also, I found a 103 Citation in pretty bad shape externally, but seems to function OK that I could get for $269. Is it worth the trouble? Can the action be rebuilt fairly easily?
Just how expensive are the slant grip Victors? Know of any for sale?0 -

Hello any thing made from 1958 up to the time they attached the barrel with a allen screw should work however this said you would not want to put a victor or long space gun barrel on a pistol that had the rear sight on the slide or bridge type on the frame. some might require slight fitting on the locking stud. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN" 0 -
all those bbls are interchangable in theory. i have come across many that arent due to the size of the 'plunger' or 'bbl stud' that wont into the frame. guns that have been matched are indeed matched and any brand new plungers wont fit. rule of thumb on bbls, is if they are fit to a gun, odds are they will fit another. if the bbl and plunger is 'nos/nib' it wont until its fitted. you volq bbl and hi std bbl are good bbls. the one with just a trigger on it is a gunpartscorp leftover stock finished in n.y, not hamden. junk. law required them to indentify the bbl, so they used the trigger logo. they bought out some of east hartfords inventory at auction when hi std went under in the 80's. most bbls wernt finished, so gunparts did, which might have included boring. no guarentee on accuarcy. its hit or miss. also too, breeches sometimes have to be shaved on the bottom for the bbl to line up on the frame right. without the shave, the bbl just wouldnt go on at all.[;)] 0 -
the other topic got locked, so lets use this one up! ok, look on the frame rails with the slide off. looking down, inspect the area where the safety and slide lock levers are. youll see how thin the rails are in that area. check for cracks. hey, if you dont want the boogered site, i'll take it! [:)] what kind of bbl came on the 103? dont forget odds are, the bbl off your 107 will pop right in the 103. 0 -
Nope, no cracks. Doesn't even show all that much wear.
This isn't the $269 job I mentioned earlier in this thread, btw. I found this one at a different dealer and decided to get the one in better shape. They had it marked $695 and I got them to knock $100 off.
The bbl it came with is the original hs, not drilled for a scope mount. I tried it with the aftermarket bbl today because it had the doctor mounted on it. It did 1.5" groups sandbagged at 25 yards with Winchester Std. Velocity and 1.25" CCI Green Tag.
Moved the sight to the Volquartsen bbl and will try it tomorrow. Also have 100 rounds each of nine different ammo on order, including Eley Tenex. Should be able to find one among them that this gun likes. I'm hoping it isn't just Tenex.
By the way, do you happen to know if there is a JPoint mount that would fit the rear sight cutout? JPoint and Aristocrat make some that fit 1911s, Berettas, Glocks, etc. I just don't know if any of them are the same size.
You're welcome to the remains of the rear sight, btw. I lost the two tiny balls and the mushroom shaped supports as well as most of the springs (pulled them out with tweezers). After doing all that, I discovered that all I had to do was knock out a tiny pin from the inside of the slide.0 -

ALL hi stds were factory tested with remington ammo. when you say original bbl, it still doesnt i.d. it. is it a 5.5" bull, 6 3/4" taper, 6 3/4" space gun, 7 1/4" fluted? 0 -
HELLO if you live in Va. come see me and we will put your pistol on ransom rest. I know BOBSKI might feel different but if you mount a red dot on the barrel you will shoot better groups. If you think about it with IRON sights there is some but slight movement between the slide and frame. When you mount a red dot on slide it adds weight to slide "GREAT ON A 1911 But not on a 22"!can cause function problems also because now the entire red dot can move in relation to the BORE remember with iron sights at least 1/2 of the sights are on barrel you have a problem 0 -
there are two kinds of hi stds, ones that should be cared for to pass on to the next generation ,and ones to win trophies with. i only get upset when i see RARE bbls ruined, like spacegun bbls. otherwise, tap that 5.5" and its no problem. heck, ive even tapped a trigger logo 7 1/4" fluted bbl for metalic silloettes once. yep, i got a mount on that thin stretch of metal up on top! now if it was an eagle logo, id shoot myself if i saw it tapped! so, have at it. just dont drill the frames! perry and i are the kind of shooters that if we were to shoot side by side, odds are, the winner would be determined by the X count. no doubt, we'd be all in the black on all 3 events, and he'd whoop me on RF and get me on the X count[:p] so, unless you are THAT steady, and you can see the bullet hit the paper, dont sweat the slide and bbl sights being seperated![;)] fyi, i can speak for perry on how proud we are to see you make the leap into professional level 22 match shooting by getting a REAL match gun. once you get your hi stds set up, they will serve you well for a VERY long time. too often, we find ourselves steering people away from low quality guns. to see someone take advice and DO IT RIGHT make our hearts and heads inflate. if you ever find yourself in Va beach area, stop in and we'll do some targets! i never turn down shooting next to a hi std owner...i know theyre SERIOUS.[:)] 0
