Springfield XD a copy?
This looks like a Springfield XD. Did Springfield copy this design or did they just buy it from the people who made it in Croatia? http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg48-e.htm

I believe the people in Croatia still manufacture it.[:)]

Springfield bought the rights for here in the US. The HS2000 was the original sold here, pre-Springfield, virtually the same gun, for less money.
The XD is made in Croatia, Springfield just sells it here. SA doesn't make it, they import it and sell it.
HS2000 is sold in the rest of the world still.
HS intro price was less than $300 new. That's what I bought mine for, wouldn't trade it for a SA XD.

Incase you're looking to buy one, you're better off with a GLOCK in my opinion. I bought one of the XD's when they came out. It's not a bad gun, but I have had a couple of malfunctions. (This may have been due in part to the old 17 rd. mags I was using, I'll do more checking later) I was also really not impressed with the finish on the slide. (Pretty much all metal parts are showing wear) For the couple bucks more I paid, I'm much happier with my GLOCK. Just an opinion from a new kid.

I own both the Glock 19, and also the XD 9mm, and I love both. They both have advantages over each other, but for everyday carry, I would go with the XD. Simply for the added safety devices it has. I know it is probably a silly excuse, but I just feel more confident with the XD, knowing that it is safe carried "cocked and locked", like the 1911A1. Just my opinion, and by the way, I have over ten thousand rounds thru both of these pistols, and neither have had any malfunctions, what-so-ever! Pretty good results!
Good luck,

Well, I agree with you on the carry aspect, BARN. I will say that the XD has proven itself a truly reliable handgun. (Stick with quality mags). The XD is a thing of beauty when it comes to a compact pistol ready to fire, yet having a few safety features that make you feel a bit more comfortable about shoving a "cocked and locked" in your waistband. I'm a little bitter about the finish problems Springfield has with this particular line, but I also love my XD nonetheless. After re-testing to be sure, The problems I've had have all been with my older 17 rd. mags. Good mag.s should not cause any trouble whatsoever. They need to work on the finish material, but the handgun itself is, otherwise, a quality piece.
