WHAT is this gun?!?
Just acquired an old semi-auto pistol I've never seen before. It says fegyvergyar budapest on the barrel. Looks to be .32 or so. Has a floating barrel inside a sleeve (like a remington 8 or 81 rifle), loads from the top with a stripper clip into the magazine well (the well goes down into the grips). Large gun, has a large knurled cocking knob on the rear of the bolt, a NAMBU looking trigger, on top of the barrel sleeve it has a non-ventilated rib that is smooth (thats where it says fergenflobbin budapest) and theres a full 'lug' under the barrel that runs the length of the barrel. I see there's a flagginpooper budapest pistol on the net for sale, but it doesn't look much like THIS one. Also has a large rectangular lanyard ring on the underside (bottom) of the grip. What the heck is this gun??? HELP!

Thanks everyone! It IS in fact a Roth Steyr in 8MM and NOW that I know that ammo isn't available, I beleive I will PASS on buying this gun and throw it on the old auction block. Any ideas on what I should expect to get for it? It is about 70% and complete with a good bore. It has a repairable dent in the barrel casing that doesn't seem to hurt anything, any ideas on value? 0 -
Actually Fiocchi makes new ammo for teh Roth Steyr and it may be a neat gun to hold onto. 0 -
RMill...These are VERY pricey weapons and I would personally think twice befor I let it out of my collection. I have several Steyr Hahn's and a Type 1 1913 and would have loved to complete the line with a Roth-Steyr, but they are way TOO PRICEY! An excellent condition gun will run into the $1500 range, and as a WAG I would assume yours to still be worth well over $700. Interesting pistol in the development of semi-auto firearms and I believe the first accepted military semi-auto firearm made for the Calvary. Uses a telescoping bolt and a bunch of other nascent features in the world of semi-auto matial arms. I will grant you that it is one of the stranger looking pistols ever produced, but with the exception of the puny cartridge and propensity to pick up dirt, it seemed to get the job done well for the Austians. Though it was superceded by the 1912 Steyr-Hahn, many were still in use by the Austrians and Hungarians during the first world war.

Hey 1KYDSTR, you seem to know a bit about these guns, would it be possible to call you so I can ask you about it? The reason I said this was a Roth Steyr was because there is ONE roth steyr on a gun sight for auction and it's identical to the one I have. It's nicer than mine and has stripper clips and a holster so I think that's why it's so much more money, but...
