S&W Serial Number

Can someone help me with a serial number for a Smith. It starts with S185XXX and is a 6.5 inch Nickle 44. Any idea when it was made? Thanks a lot. Gary

  Anyone have an idea what years the S&W model 10-5 38 special caliber revolver w/2" barrel was mfg?

  It was made in late 1958 to early 59.

  Thanks a lot for the information Joe. This gun came in the original black S&W box and except for a faint drag line is in perfect condition. I consider it the crown jewel in my Smith collection but have no reference books on serial numbers.

  Gary.... Iam a Smith collector and have a copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Supica and Nahas.
  
  It is an excellent 318 page reference book for everything Smith. You can buy a copy at just about all the auctions sites.
