Need Info on Star 9mm semiauto model B??
On another post a poster who always seems to be pretty knowledgeable post about how you can buy a milsurp Star 9mm semi-auto in the $125.00 range and get pretty darn nice gun. Can that person (or anyone who knows)post that info again since I can't find it and also go into some more detail since my searching reveals quite a few models of the Star that might be confusing in that I don't know if that is the good model he was posting about.

STAR MODEL B
much the same design as its precursor the MODEL A but has the backstrap humped in the manner of the COLT M1911A1. this change indicated introduction after 1926, and these guns are most often found chambered in 9mm parabellum. the hammer has an oversized spur, and the vestigal "hole" encountered on the A models has been eliminated.
production ran up until the spanish civil war in 1939. production resumed after cessation of hostilities in spain with a large contract of over 35,000 being purchased by the german army from 1941-1944. manufacture continued with only minor changes until 1984. an astonishing run considering technological and design advancments.
do not confuse this gun with the STAR MODEL SUPER B. the SUPER B appeared in 1946 when it was adopted and contracted for by the spanish army. it featured an improved dismantling system with a take down lever on the right side of the frame and abandoned the swinging link lock in favor of a solid cam design. a loaded chamber indicator was fitted and white dots were added to the sights. the SUPER B ceased production in 1983.
the MODEL A, MODEL A SUPER, and MODEL A (1922 VARIENT) date from 1924 (with about 5000 model 1922 varients being made in the previous 2 years) had a slide based much more closely on the colt M1911 than the MODELO MILITAR (aka military model) and had a saftey catch on the left rear of the frame. the retraction grip grooves were milled verticly (and DEEPLY) and the rear sight, mounted in a rounded dovetail style slot in the slide, doubles as a firing pin retainer. the smallish spur hammer has a hole in it. the model A`s were offered in 7.63 mauser, 9mm largo, and .45 acp chamberings. the butstock was often slotted to take a shoulder stock, and very late models had a full length backstrap grip saftey.
any one of these guns should make the WORLDS GREATEST TOP 25 COMBAT HANDGUN list. we own several, and thay are often match accurate, reliable tackdrivers when in good condition.

Earlier this summer SOG had some B's in good condition but I haven't seen them for a while. Several places have the BM which is a compact model that I've found to be a good item. I have a B that I would sell if you want a good one w/4 magazines.

I saw an ad in shotgun news for a surplus BM for $139.50. I Thought what the hell it's only money and you can't take it with you. Had my gun man order me one.
When it came in it looked like s***. Blue wear, dirty, leaded barrel,ect. I thought good it will be a good project to work on. Did research on the pistol and found out it was made in 1978 and was issued the Spainish navy. I didn't even know Spain had a navy!
Anywhy, I cleaned it, unleaded the barrel, and re-blued it (several layers of cold blue).
Took it to the range and I s*** you not, it is the most accurate 9mm I've ever shot. It has never had any malfunctions.
I was so impressed, my gun dealer has a full-size Super A in very good condition that I'm going to get next month. He put it back for me.
I once turned my nose up when seeing a Star at my local gun shop. But found that they are affordable, realible, and acccurate.0 -

1. beware NAZI marked or WAFFENAMPT`d MODEL B pistols. it was recently discovered that a major distributer had advertised for sale these specialy marked pistols wich turned out to be fakes. the SER# range and production date codes showed manufacture as much as 5 years after WWII ended. i understand that they pulled the add ASAP and returned some money to all those who complained. it appears that they got burned by there scource...
2. spanish firearm design and production differ from domestic manufacture in many odd ways. STAR would make a design change (addition, deletion, alteration, etc...) and then produce a few hundred working models. you can line up 10 MODEL B`s that all exhibit slightly differant features. it can be very confusing when attempting to ID one of these guns. about half the STAR pistols you see will be marked wrong, ID`d wrong, or mislabeled.
3. these are high quality guns, and i am a huge fan. let us know what you decide, and what you get...

MrMike: today I took one of my brand new, unfired guns to the house of my local FFL holder so that I could ship it to my mother-in-law who will receive her Ariz CCW license next week and since she is on a limited income she will need a gun to carry so I donated one of mine. She is quite the pro-gun success story. As recently as 2 years ago she was so anti-gun that she would not even touch or pickup my daughter's new revolver that we tried to show her. Now she shoots at the range on a regular basis, has shot a fully auto rifle and as of next week will have completed her ccw class. I live in KS and she in AZ so I was unable to have much influence on her, but lucky for us she became friends with a man her age (70-80's) and he influenced her to being pro-gun. And she loves it.
Anyway, that is not the reason I decided to post this info. While I was at the FFL holder's house, as luck would have it, he just happened to mention that he had a Star BM model for sale for $183.50 grand total cost/price. I looked at it and it seem good condition for a milsurp firearm. But what I noticed about it was its EXCELLENT trigger pull. It is as light and smooth as anyone could expect. Are all models like this as good? I am guessing that is the one thing that makes this gun so accurate. What do you (or others) think?

triggers are usualy amazing...
short overall travel, crisp clean break, usualy below 5 pounds of pull...
my STAR MODEL A (1922 VARIANT) had about 10% original finish left, and a 20 pound trigger pull. i had it proffesionaly refinished, and my boss (the shop owner) did a trigger job on it. its so accuratte it scares me...
all my dad did to his SUPER B was add a trigger shoe. he has won medals and trophies in compatition with it right out of the box.
the STAR BM is little more than a smaller / shotened version of the STAR BS with a 4" BBL and a steel frame. chambered for the 9mm parabellum round, with an 8 round magazine, and could be obtained in BLUE, CHROME or HARD CHROME finish.
not to be confused with the MODEL BKM wich has an alloy frame. its just an attempt to save wieght on the otherwise identical MODEL BM.
these guns were introduced in the early 1970`s. they were considered to be the smallest mass produced major caliber locked breech pistols of there day. no grip saftey, colt configuration...
of course there is also the STAR MODEL C wich is just a standard STAR MODEL B chambered in 9MM BROWNING LONG and introduced on a limited basis in 1928.
beware dual caliber slide markings...
.38 / 9MM indicates 9mm largo chambering, and not .38 super or 9X23 win. there are a lot of confused, misinformed owners / sellers in this area...
