Kimber 1911 .22lr
Been looking at Kimber 1911 rimfire .22. Is this gun worth the price they have on it? Would the conversion be a better idea? I've researched conversions for 1911's, seems that Marvel has the one that gets the most compliments. Any one have experience with the Kimber 1911 .17 MachII? Thanks.

Hello it all depends on what you are looking for in a conversion. unit. If you want a gun that goes bang and fun to plink with both choices will serve you well. However if you want to shoot in some bulls-eye matches then the MARVEL is hands down more accurate. I have the Kimber Rimfire Target and I love it. I picked it up at a Frinds of the NRA Banquet. As a matter of fact I just got in from shooting it,had received 2 spare magazines for it and wanted to try them out.1 inch at 15 yards is my best.Haven't put it on sandbags at 25 yet to see what it is capable of. My soon to be wife fell in love with it, hard for me to keep it in my hands when we go shoot.
As you say the price is a bit salty compared to others. I guess it would boil down to why you want it. Is it going to be just a plinker,or a training aid to a full size 45. It is a light pistol only about 27 oz.
I have no experience at all with the conversion units,but what I have read on the forum is that the MARVEL would be way to go.
With its price of I think around $300 or so it would leave plenty of $$ left over for ammo.0 -
If you already own a 1911 then looking into one of the conversion units would be prudent. Of those being manufactured today the Marvel is the better one, but the Ceiner is about $50 less and they are good too.
If you don't own a 1911 think about where you want to go with all of this and if you feel that there is a good chance that in the future you would purchase a 45 then I think it might be best to just layout the money for the 45 and the conversion unit.
Kimber is one choice, but there are many others to choose from. Springfield Armory runs occassional promotions and you can buy one of their higher end 1911's in 45 and a Marvel conversion for about the same money as a Kimber 45.
Now if the money really isn't an issue buy yourself a Bauer or Wilson and a Marvel conversion. Sure it is a few hundred more that the Kimber but there is a significant difference.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0
