Best all around o/u Shotgun??

I have a sixteen year old left handed son that I would like to buy a good all around O/U Shotgun. We shoot Quail and Skeet and have oppurtunities to duck and dove hunt from time to time. I was thinking a 20ga but some have suggested a Light 12ga with tubes?? I am not sure what is out there. Any input appreciated.

    I would stick with a 12 gauge, people grow out of 20 gauges. I would look at the Ruger O/U in stainless steel, if you want to use it for duck hunting. Ruger makes a good gun, I've never had one of their o/u though.

    try an old remington peerless. they are cheap enough so that if absued, you wont flinch at an ugly scratch and say, 'i ruined my o&u!' and faint.[;)]

    I do all my hunting with a 20 or smaller. 20 gauge will kill anything that you need it too, plus on smaller game, it's less tissue damage.

    You can get combo guns for ~$500 (12 and 20 barrels fit to the same receiver) if you know where to look. I think Stoeger makes some, but I'm not sure.

    Ruger 20 ga will work great. If you think you need more shot go to the 3 inch shells. Great gun.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    I bought a 20 ga Browning Superposed about 30 years ago. In those days we could use lead shot for ducks and the gun worked for everything but geese. If you're not hunting waterfowl and can use lead shot, for upland birds, small game & such, it would be fine. If you will have waterfowl/steel shot on the agenda, then go with a 12. The Superposed was expensive relative to other guns, but if I divide by the number of years I've had it, the number of hours per year I use it, and the number of memories just seeing it in the safe bring to mind, many involving people that are no longer with us, the price was cheap.

    I'm 6'8", 275 lbs, and 33 years old and the first shotgun I reach for when heading to the field is my Ruger Red Label 20ga. It's a fantastic handling piece with it's 26" barrels and, with the screw-in chokes, you can customize to whatever shooting situation you're in. My very first shotgun was a 20ga and I've owned several over the years and don't see a need for any much more. I only wish someone out there would make a wider assortment of aftermarket choke tubes(extended, ported, etc) for the 20ga Ruger?

    I will check it out. Certain gun-related items can be a real pain in the behind to get across the border. Seems that US Customs doesn't like seeins gun parts leave their country. I know barrels take forever to get in, but maybe chokes will be alot easier to clear ever though they are barrel-related. Thanks

    I also grab the 20ga everytime I go to the field, go to a 3" for the bigger stuff. they are a pleasure to cary and point. I would look at the franchi o/u. you can buy another set of barrels anytime if you want to change 12-20ga or 20-12ga. no fitting required. the also have a light weight titanium model.
