    Good evening,

According to the current blue book, the Savage Model 5 is 'like the Model 4', a bolt action repeater made in the late 30's to early 40's. The text lists the 5 as being made from 38-64 with values of $30 at 60% to $70 at 95%. The production table for Savage/Stevens in the back of the blue book lists model 5's as being made from 1936-45, approximagely 22,000 pieces.

I can't give any help on what the other numbers mean.

    Hope this helps. Regards, Bob

Some of the early Savages with no serial numbers on the barrel or action have the number on the end of the stock under the butt plate and on the under side of the plate.
I never saw a list to show the year of manufacture of the 3s,4s or 5s according to the serial number.
