Franchi Spas 12 shotgun...are they legal?

Are there any restrictions on these shotguns? Are they Class 2 or Class 3 items???

    DEPENDS ON YOU STATE AND LOCAL LAWS. NOT A CLASS 3 ITEM.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    They are not a DD if that is what you are worried about. Basicaly they are just a regular shotgun that you can use semi or pump. If you are looking for a good shotgun this would not be my choice, if you are looking for something cool this is it. I have one and it isnt a good semi auto or a good pump. You have to be shooting full power ammo for it to cycle (no field loads), as a pump it is big and heavy. Loading and shooting is very complicated, you have to have the safety in the right spot, push this button, pull this lever.........I have one and it is really cool but would be the last gun I would run out of my house with if I needed it.

    They were recalled for defective fire control mechanisms and the parts are no longer available. Do a search on the web. If the safety is a push button then it has the new parts. If the safety is a rotating lever then the gun is totally unsafe.

    Other than local restrictions as duckhunter stated, they are neither class 2 or 3....in fact I consider them totally without class!!!I was an FFL dealer when they first came out and purchased one for my self.In my almost 50 years in the firearms world, I have never seen a more awkward ,complicated, or unsafe firearm as the Spas-12. After my experience, I refused to sell them even if the customer insisted.

    As to the recall.... My buddie had one . He loaded it , threw one round in the chamber and as he was flicking the saftey lever it went off. The barrel flew up from the recoil and split his lip wide open, lucky no one was in front of the shot gun. It got shipped to the distributior and replaced with the new saftey.
