difference in values 12 ga vs 20 ga?
Hello experts:
I have a Ithaca Model 37 in 12 ga. that is in very good condition. I also have too many other 12 ga shotguns. I like the bottom ejection feature of the Model 37 but would rather have it in 20 ga. Before I go on a trading mission, should I expect to pay a slight or significant premium for the 20 ga? If so about how much boot is reasonable, assumming the condition of the shotguns are the same? Good morning Robin! There are many versions of the "old Ithaca 37" From when they first came out in 1937 to todays 37. With all things being equal!! Same vintage, same type of barrel, plain, solid rib, or vent rib, same stocks, same condition, up to about 1970, the 20ga. can be worth 20-40% more. The 37s produced in the last 10-15 years, show no difference in price, however 20ga. guns are always harder to find, simply because they didn't make as many. So on the newer versions I would expect to pay more than a 12ga. Good Luck, Regards Dave 0 -
I started looking around for a Ithaca model 37 and thought I found one. Turns out that it is an older shotgun, a Remington model 17. It looks very, very similar to Ithaca's model 37. I wonder if Ithaca copied or bought the rights to this design? Aybody know if there is a connection or anything about a Remington model 17?

If you are trading the same gun but different choke that means that the other person wants your guage and I wouldn't offer anything extra. 0 -
Robin the Remington Model 17 was made from 1921 until 1933 in 20 gauge only. The Ithaca 37 is derived from this John Browning design from 1915. Ithaca started production in (of course) 1937. The two models are similar but not identical and parts will not interchange. 0
