Micarta Grips
What are Micarta grips? I know they are plastic, but why are they a more expensive upgrade from the standard rosewood on the Freedom Arms revolvers? I think the Rosewood looks so much better.

Micarta was and is used in the electrical industry as an insulater, I think. I have a pair of black micarta grips on my Ruger Bisley and I really like they way they look and feel. They come in black or white as far as I know. I had a Freedom revolver with black micarta grips also.

Micarta was an British invention...Made from Flax and or Linen Fiber and Resin....used to insulate Electronic Parts in Aircraft....

Just for everyone's general information...if you are somewhat inclined and have the patience AND ability, you might try making your own from DuPont Corian counter top material. It is stain resistant, same color all the way through, dense, and most cabinet shops will GIVE you the scrap pieces they have. And the color selection is enormous.

I am amazed, someone else knows about Corian. I got scraps of Corian, white, from my local counter shop, and made grips for my Star. It Corian works easy and can be wet sanded very smooth.

Micarta is used commonly for knife handles. The Micarta can come in a wide variety of colors (Ivory and black are just common) and imitation woods. They feel fine and are durable but I prefer natural materials like the rosewood you described.
