California Assualt Weapons Ban

Does anyone know the exact date it was required to register(with fingerprints ect.) Assualt weapons in California?

  Basically the last time you could register any AW in Cali was Jan 1, 2000. SB23 (by characteristic ban) went into effect on that day. Some AW's had to have been registered before that. The first Cali AW ban went into effect in '89 but only effected a few models, the most sweeping ban was SB23.

  Thank you for the information. I couldn't remember if it was 2000 or 2001. Every time I try to go to that site my computer goes crazy.
