1850 Enfield Martini Rifle

I need to know how much an enfield 18oo martini is worth. It is an issued rifle so it has seen action. 2 people have told me that it is worth alot but I do not know. I am thinking of selling it to a state trooper but I do not know its worth.

  earliest matini's are from the 1870's, most are .577/450 cal. or have been converted to .303 brit. they are selling a boat load of them from nepal now for $550-$800. condition is everthing.

  Hello,
  I don't mean to be a nit picker, but, your post is very confusing.
  First "Enfield" refers to the British government armory at Enfield Lock England. Enfield made many different weapons for the British armed forces in the 1800's. Probably the best known on this side of the lake are the models of 1850, 1853 and 1855, all of which were used in the Civil War by both sides. In the latter part of the 1860's many of these rifled muskets were converted to breach loader by useing the Sinder swinging block system.
  
  Second,"Martini" refers to the Peabody-Martini action which was invented here in the U.S. by Peabody in the 1860's and later improved by Martini. Now, to confuse things even more, many Peabody-Martini rifles and carbines were made at the Enfield Armory and are marked "Enfield". As has already been pointed out these weapons were made in the 1870's and '80's and after 1886 some were rebarreled to caliber .303.
  
  Now what we need from you is a complete discription of what you have, including the caliber, any and all markings, both on the metal and on the wood (the British loved to put lots of stamps on their guns) barrel length and anything else you can think of. Pictures would be great! Remember we can only see this piece through your eyes. Help us to help you.
