Springfield Armory GI
I am interested in the Springfield GI 45...anyone have any experience with this particular model? Pro or con?

I won a Springfield 1911A1 .45 at a match a few years back. It is a high quality, accurate, reliable pistol.
I would recommend Springfield. They make good quality guns.

The beavertail grip safety on that particular model is a real detrament to the gun. I replaced mine with a wide hight curve beavertail safety and it shoots a ton better not to mention no longer hurts my hand.
Hold it a bunch before you buy it if you have big hands the down slanting skinny beavertail can really hurt your hand after shooting a bunch.
Also if you do buy it and want to replace that you need to buy a commando hammer as well and do some fileing on the frame.
Oh ya btw, stock it was shooting 14" groups after replacing the safety and hammer its shooting 6" or better at 25 yards. Great little gun I know I can make it shoot better with handloads and if I got an even better barrel however I want this one as stock as possible. Plan to buy another 1911 to go crazy on.0 -
Bought a 1911A1 about 18 months ago. The bbl has an increase in OD where it mates with the bbl bushing when in battery. Only put out about $450 if I remember right, and two were ordered. One of the range-owners, (this purchase's FFL holder) took the other one for himself. The two oldest 1911 gurus at the range scratched thier heads. Both independently said it looks like a barrel upgrade ,with a custom or hand fitted bushing. It is the most accurate auto pistol I now have. Eats everything I have fed it. The trigger breaks crisp, but could be lightened a little IMO, but I don't plan on it.
I may have been the recipient of an inadvertent upgrade, but
as you can see, I have nothing but good to say about them.

they are NEW production 1911 pistols with a number of finishes (ODgreen parkerized) with wood handgrips with "US" on them. They use the standard WWII configuration. SA calls them the "GI 45" look like sweet pistols 0 -
I have two Springfield GIs, the Micro 3" and Champion 4". Great
little machines, both of them, even without any amendments. One
might take some breaking in, like all large caliber handguns, but
they are built to last a lifetime and guaranteed to do so. Accuracy
is really a matter of practising to get the feel, then hardball or HP,
you'll be putting them right in there consistantly.0 -
i have the full sized one in od. great gun for the money and it looks right at home in my old tanker holster. i shoot the crap out of mine 0 -
The GI mil-spec is just that ,an original design like you would find in a WWII army issue ,5"barrel ,no beaver tail ,no adjustable sights ,anything else is not a GI mil-spec

and to answer your question ,yes they are just fine the only thing I do not like is the fact that under the dust cover on some of them it is marked "imbel brazil" ,I feel this is a bit sacrilege for a U.S. GI weapon

I think you will want a trigger job, better sights, beaver tail grip safety, lowered ejection port, & possibly an ambi-safety pretty quick. All these things purchased together or individually will add up quick. SA's GI 45, to me, looks like a stripped, foreign made (Brazil), low dollar 45. There have been many improvements made to the 1911 over the last 20-50 years.
If I were you, I'd save up for a Kimber BP10, or at least a SA loaded model.

I have one and its a very reliable firearm.I wanted a 1911 for my pickup,I did not want adj.sights or all the other bells and whistles and the stainless mil-spec springfield fit my needs very well.Other than a lowered ejection port all the other upgrades you could want are easy to do and you can do them one at the time as wanted.If you are just wanting a good inexpensive mil-spec 1911 look around for a good Sistema colt,they can still be found for around $300 and are just as easy to upgrade.I have several ,my wife calls them my tonka toys,,always taking something off and adding something different or swaping parts around 0
