Thinking about a flashlight equiped go to pistole
What are some good guns to look at? I am thinking on the lines of a glock look alike believe there the springfield XD's? But I am totally open to suggestions, I am not intrested in a glock Don't like the weight of them unloaded.
Or something else similar im looking in the 500 or less price range before the light. Also what are most of the handgun lights set up as pressure activated, or switch?
Any information is greatly apreaceated. This would be for home defense basically.

I have been looking at the cz p01. I plan to get one soon. They have the rail underneath for a flashlight or laser.[:D]

Spend the extra cash and get either an HK USP or a Wlther P99. With the USP factory OEM light from Insight Technologies you have a two control switches: The first is a master ON-OFF power switch on the left side of the light which turns on or off the battery power. The light is controled by a three way switch at the bottom rear of the unit and is below the trigger gaurd when the unit is attached to the pistol. Center position is OFF, left position is a constant ON, and the right position turns the light on for as long as the switch is held but when released it returns to OFF. There is a plug in recepticle on the right of the light where you can plug in a remote touch pad switch to be mounted anywhere on the pistol you please (the wire is pretty long). I have no interest in this so I never mounted it. There a LOTS of other units out there and you also might consider a seperate hand held HID flash light to be used as a stand alone light without the pistol.

Good suggestions by Mark. Maybe a used Sig? Is this your first pistol? Do you have a preferred weapon system that you are familiar with? The best weapon to get is one you shoot well and can operate well under high stress situations. Maybe try a few different ones out and see what suits you best.
As for a weapon light. Gun mounted units are very good because they it gives you a two handed grip on your weapon.
Xracer, FYI...you do not shine your light the entire time you are clearing a structure. However this discussion is left for another time and a different thread.0 -
fastest way to get shot in a fire fight at night is to mount a flashlight to a gun. its the stupidest gizmo the retail gun market has ever came up with. all the perp has to do is aim at the light source and youre toast. best way is to carry a flashlight in one hand and the gun in the other and do a crossover. this way if the perp sees your light and shoots at it, he will miss you. think before you give your money to someone who hasnt been shot at before.

[:D] I suggest you have a buddy shine a 120 Lumens in your eye and then see if you can fire any accurate shots off. Also if you know of any other tactics to identify a threat at night and clearing a structure in low light or darkness please do share. I am always open to learn new techniques. 0 -
I agree with CF on that one. Also I you need to make sure what/who you are shooting at in the dark. That is the wrong time to make a mestake, remember friendly fire isnt very friendly.

the flash of your shot will uluminate the area for the next. you dont need flashlights. ask any old tunnel rat about that trick. keep in mind, besides the flashlight theory is soley based on the other guy not being armed. always remember...hand guns are just that, handguns. one hand. not...hand(s)gun. [;)]

Thanks for the few helpful responses that there were... I did not create the thread to discuss tactics or reasons to use a flashlight I did it solely to find out what weapon systems were best suited to handle a flashlight.
I don't think any of us are capable of sneaking around our own houses silently enough to sneak up on someone in the dark let alone identify the intruder well enough to know its not a family member.
As for weapon systems I'm familiar with it doesn't matter much, I have a 1911, berreta 92 knockoff have shot glocks and there knock off's etc I am pretty proficient with any handgun I have handled. Of course practice makes perfect in any case I just wanted to know what all is out there.

Well ... I would go with the Beretta Vertec or with the Smith & Wesson Tactical series or the SigPro series. they all have the intergrated light rails. All of these models come in multiple calibers except the Beretta which only comes in 9 and 40. Either way you really cant go wrong ... I personally like the Beretta because you can use the loaded chamber indicator without actually having to look at the weapon.. you can feel if it is loaded or not. Those are my picks for pistols... but you said the weapon is soley for home defense.... then go with a shotgun-light combo. buy a Remington 870 for around 300.00. I think Surefire makes a weapon mounted light for under 250.00 There you go 500.00 dollars and peace of mind. 0 -
