Concealed carry for purse
I bought my girlfriend a USP Compact .40 stainless 10+1 after we both received our concealed weapons permits. She is no stranger to shooting, and she handles my .45 actually a little better than her .40 I got her. But the compact HK is too big she said for her purse. I told her if she goes smaller she will have to go to a smaller caliber. Any suggestions on a model/caliber? ONly thing I want to keep is the cocked and locked feature of the HK. I don't want her to have to rack the gun to use it. I love glocks never had a problem but, I would never carry one on me loaded, too many things could go wrong. Thanks guys.

personally partial to the walther p99 they make a compact version, which from what i've seen looks slightly smaller than the usp compact. I've only seen p99 compacts in 9mm, but they have had plans for a 40sw compact for awhile, dont know if they are available yet. 0 -
This is all heavy, bulky iron for a purse.
How about an airweight S&W 38Spl or a Keltec 380?0 -
I see mostly problems in using a purse for CCW. A purse is often the target of thieves, & it is usually the first thing to be lost in an assault.
I recommend that a CCW be carried ON YOUR PERSON, preferably in a holster, pocket holster, or a fanny pack. I like v35's suggestions of an airweight S&W or Keltec.

well i know for a fact she won't wear a fanny pack nor would I.....lol
She won't wear it on her persons either, purse is the only place I can think of, and yes I agree with you 100 percent the purse is the number 1 target of thieves. I had her a glock 27 at first but the thing kept jamming on her (limp wristing) I never had a problem with it. But anyway thats the deal. Doesn't sig make a concealable gun?0 -
I have a SIG P.239 in 9mm on my CCW...Had it for many years and love it. Even bought one for my 18 yr old daughter since she loves to shoot mine!!!Not a lightweight but comfortable to shoot and incredibly accurate.

There are gun purses made especially to carry handguns. Coronado Leather is one maker.
In a normal purse, the gun, being heavy, gravitates toward the bottom and gets nasty with all the stuff women carry in their purses.
That said, I agree that a purse is a poor second choice of where to carry.

Ah love, isn't it grand! But, coercing someone to carry arms when
they are unschooled and unconvinced is a recipe for disaster.
Perhaps you are way more enamoured with the idea than she is.
If she agrees, send her to a professional self defense instructor
or range master with a gun safety program and stay home and refrain
from pressuring her anymore.
Then after she is more confident, I agree with the Airweight S&W 637
38Sp+P option. Remington's 125gr. jacketed hollow point hits like
a sledge hammer at any yardage she'd likely have to use it at, and
the piece is real concealable and accurate as can be.

I think frogbert missed the first post she has her concealed weapons permit, shot guns all her life with her dad and has gone to the range with me every saturday for 3 years. No stranger to the steel...lol. She out shoots 90 percent of my friends. When I get time I should post what she did to a 50yd target with an ak-47 and 40 rds. I'm scared when I look at that thing 
I know the purse is a bad idea, but she can't wear it on her, she wears tighter clothes and wouldn't want anything sticking out on her body. The purse would be the only option>btw I am checking on those purses listed below now. The smaller gun was actually her idea, for now she just carries the HK compact in her glove box because she said its too big for her purse. And she said she's keeping the HK>lol
And she doesn't like revolvers, otherwise the airweight would be in her purse now....love those guns super light.0 -

You might want her to look at a Kahr PM9 (9mm)or PM40 (.40 S&W).
Then there the Kel-Tec P3AT (.380ACP). The Kel-Tecs are a little light in the caliber department, but sure are small. Friend has one, he's smaller in stature and never leaves home without it. The Kahrs are fine shooters and are small and slim. The Kel Tec works well also as it is not a blow back action, but does need a little different trigger technique.0 -

Lady Smith in .357, if your girlfriend is anything like mine she probably has all kinds of makeup in her purse the thought of blush and rouge, and eyeliner gumming up the works of an automatic make me shudder. 0 -
Find one of the old Hi Standard derringers in .22lr or .22mag.
No safety, just a stiff trigger pull. Very high quality, utterly reliable.
Two shots would save the day in most situations she would get in, and it is a very concealable pistol.0 -
I have the Kel-Tec .380 and endorse it as to size, weight, etc, vs caliber but I doubt a woman less than an amazon can rack the slide. Very heavy on pull back. I would recco a light weight S&W 5 shooter. 0
