I have heard that Remington 700's had "better" production years than others (similar to the famed pre-64 Winchester) but have never heard which years were better. 0 -
If you're shooting previously fired cases, make sure they are completely resized. If new, make sure they're completely clean, not even any dust on them. Also, check the case length to make sure they aren't pinched by the front of the leade. 0 -
sr338, are you shooting handloads or factory stuff? Do the cases show any signs of higher than normal pressure? If you're shooting commercial ammo, then take the gun to a competent gunsmith, and have him check it out, or send it back to Reminbton with a letter of explanation and have them check it out if you are shooting factory ammo.
Good luck,

Have been hunting for years with 3 guys that shoot Rem 700 in 7mm mag. they have all run into this problem, doesn't happen all the time, they says the gun seems to know when they need a second shot right away and jams up. They have found that this only happens with remington ammo. they use factory ammo. Now using Winchester ammo, 2 years and no problem. one guy says his gun did get alittle stiff one time. they have contacted Rem in the past and were told there is no problem, they just have dirty guns or ammo. 0 -
could be a headspacing problem 0 -
I would venture a guess that it is a tight spot in the chamber. Do the tight cases have a rough spot or one that looks like it has drug across the chamber wall? If so,..that's the issue. You can polish that out with little effort.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
