The barrel contour of the featherweight is considerably slimmer than the standard, in addition to not having the sight bump. The featherweight contour steps down in diameter about a quarter inch from the receiver. That being said, you can carve out the wood that's in the way, drill a hole for the lug screw, and possibly inlet a little to make allowance for variations in the action (these weren't CNC, so there are variations. But the project should be fairly straight forward.

Could I use my action, with a replacement featherweight barrel, in a featherweight stock (all pre 64 of course)?

The actions on the standard and featherweight M70s were the same as far as stock dimensions are concerned. The primary difference was that tghe standard had steel floorplate, trigger guard; whereas the featherweight had alloy. As noted, there may be slight dimensional inletting, but as far as the actoin is concerned, it would be the same for either the standard or featherweight.

So then I could put a featherweight barrel on my standard action and with a little inleting install them in a featherweight stock?
