I bought a ruger compact in .260rem. I topped it with a leupold vx-1 3x9x40. What do you think as far as deer out to 200-250 yards (usually closer to 100-150yards) I will be using 140 grain ammo. As always thanks for your replies.

  Not sure why you would even need to ask.
  
  Sounds like an excellent combination for deer out to the distances you mention. Of course, that is assuming that you are a good enough shot out to those distances.

  After firing my 140 factory loads,I reloaded my brass with 120 grain Ballistic tips and they shoot great.Happy hunting,Bob.

  I am surprised that you picked that gun and caliber if you wanted to shoot that heavy of a bullet at that distance. It will do the job but not as well and a number choices and the recoil with 140gr will be noticeable compared to the typical 260 set up. good shooting
