9MM Pistol vs 9MM SMG
Is there a big difference between range and power between 9MM pistol and 9MM SMG ammo. If I fire 9MM SMG from an MP5K, could I expect greater range and power?

None that I have ever noticed. I measured SMG ammo and it was a little shorter then Pistol ammo.
The MP5K is a pistol so it's range is limited anyways.0 -
Actually there is a difference from a 9mm fired from your standard pistol which has a shorter barrel and then from a sub machine gun. You will get a little more performance shooting a MP5 at 50 yards than a Glock 19 at 50 yards. Even body armor is rated differently for 9mm from hand guns than 9mm from sub guns.
Level II vest is rated for 9mm 115gn up to 1200FPS
Level IIIA vest is rated for 9mm sub gun up to 1400FPS0 -
Be forewarned that some pistols are not designed for the higher pressure SMG rounds.

Excellent point. In addition, most SMG rounds have hard primers that may fail to fire in a pistol.

Multiple hits from an automatic weapon are supposed to have greater effect than the same bullet striking at longer time intervals as from a pistol of the same power. 0 -
From what I understand the SMG ammo is "hotter" in order for some subguns to operate efficiently. As a rule, SMG ammo is not recommended for handguns.
