winchester 97s
I recently got a 97 receiver for free. it is a solid non takedown model. can the barrel from a takedown model be unthreaded from the area forward of the receiver and threaded directly into the solid receiver? i found a complete front end of takedown version and need to know if i can make this thing work.

so the barrel from a takedown model is a different part number? I just figured once the barrel was off the little connector between the barrel and the receiver, that the threads would be the same 0 -
Jake: The take down version is machined different than the solid frame version. The take down version which uses a receiver extention, adjusting sleeve, and a barrel chamber ring. The Solid frame version has has slots, (or channels) machined into it for the extactors on the breech bolt. I believe the diameter of the barrel threads on the solid frame barrel, is also larger than the takedown version. When looking at a Winchester Parts lists, these barrels have there own part number.
