Long Range still on a budget
Thanks for all the input on my last post. Someone had made coment on the savage being a good choice as well. I was out shooting my savage 112 in 300 rem ultra today, i like the round but dislike the gun it's not that it does not shoot well its that the fit and finish of the gun is poor. In short i got what i paid for. I think that after listening to everyone i will go with the 700 and spring for some better glass. I think that ill be able to have a good longrange shooter with about 1300.00 I think around 750.00 for the gun and around 500.00 for the glass. I know that i wont have a top of the line 1000yd rifle but ill have a gun that i cant outshoot

Here is the skinny,..so keep this in mind. A good SS barrel blank by any top shop will run ~$300 then the chambering/threading/crowning makes for another $100-$200, and if you want a good break,..then figure another $150. That's anywhere from $550-$650 just for the barrel. Then, a stainless double thick recoil lug for about $40. Now,..a stock (used HS Precision can be had for $150). Now trigger job $25 and bedding $50. Throw in truing the action/lugs/boltface for $150. Add rings and bases, then good dies, and you are already at your max with no glass.
Find a 700VS, VLS, VSSF, sendero, or sendero SF. That gives you the stock already, and a good enough barrel to use until you have the funds for a match grade tube.[;)]

Tell you I really like my Browning A-bolt II. Its chambered in 300wsm and is darn accurate. You may have considered, but if you haven't its definatly worth taking a look at.

Remington 700 PSS is right around 750.00 to 800.00 in 308 and 300 win mag. You will get a nice HS-Precision stock with that gun and it comes with a decent barrel. 0
