Sommer und/+ Ockenfuss (Shorty) Marksman
Hello, I'm joing what seems like any and all the forums out there with my new purchase. I picked up a Sommer +/Und Ockenfuss "Shorty" Marksman in .308Win. this is a Bullpup configured rifle with bolt action built in the grip. The company that made this rifle is gone (2002 or so) and the parts as well as the rifle had very small importation period about 2 or 3 years. I haven't taken this out to the range since there are no sights so I'm waiting for a scope to arrive (any day now). So, far all I did was to clean the already clean gun and work the action looser. (very stiff since I and my smith believe its been in a safe most of her life) I've been looking for more magazines, a factory bipod and the third leg that goes on the butt of the stock. I'd like to get some write ups but all I ever did find was a bit in the Gun Digest. I'd like to find owners who could direct me in finding parts and info. Or just to let me know how y'alls like it.

I was able to track down the company that is supposedly handling the liquidation of the former Sommer + Ockenfuss assets. I can run this through a translator but you might do better on your end. This was truly a well made, advanced weapon and like some of those before it, just couldn't find a big enough market that would support the cost.

Liquidation geschrieben hatte (der Unterschied war mir nicht klar, jetzt weiss ich, da? es einen gibt).
Vielleicht bekomme ich ja auch irgendwann noch Antwort auf meine mail von vor 4 Monaten mit witeren Anfragen.
Schon damals hatte ich in meiner mail auf meine Seite hier verwiesen, auch um Mi?verst?ndnisse auszur?umen, und leider nie etwas davon geh?rt.

I tried that site and the e-mail just got bounced back. I think I emailed everyone with an email on the Sommer search. Some were in Russian and German (for all I know I was ordering a mail order bride) hell if they bring me Sommer parts and not want half it might have prospects. Well, I finally managed to contact Hermann in Australia, he has the bipod but didn't give me a price or if he had magazines. At leat I'm a bit closer. I should be getting a scope in this week so I can begin to break the barrel in. Shoot and clean after each shot will be fun at the range. 0 -
Took her out and broke in the barrel but I think the previous owner done the job for me since there wasn't any copper fouling. I could be wrong so did the routine just the same. Had the range to myself after about an hour or two being there. That was nice condition and having the place to myself no wind about 60*. It was so slow one of the state park people that run the range brought out his Califonia friendly AR. That was one of the funniest thing I've seen in a long time since it reminded me of a toy gun. He said it had all Bushmaster upper and guts just the California legal reciever. Anyhow, the Sommer worked flawlessly except the scope. When I bought it I assumed it was 30mm and not 1 inch like it is (the seller had all the specs in metric so why would it have anything in inches) so it has the ring adapters but it moved about. I thought I didn't tighten the rings enough but the screw are steel and the rings are aluminum so I didn't want to strip the threads.
A week later took her out again but it wouldn't hold. I think I'll get the A.R.M.S. Rings and the quick release mount rail. I figure the rings comes in 30mm and in 1 inch so I'll have two sets of rings and a rail they can share. Or one I could just mount on the stock rail. Well enough on the ring problems.
On the second outing (a bit of wind and few shooters so the range wasn't mine) I got the Bipod/mount I had ordered out of Australia it's nice and all but it's just a block of anodized aluminum with a stick for the bipod and screw to hold on to the rail. Hermann states that this was "the last one available" But I think I'll see if an aluminum machine shop can fabricate on for me to my spec. Here's the thing it fills about 1/3 of the fore rail but after a bit of shooting it moves from the recoil and the traction off the bench top. It has only one locking mechanism but I figure if there were two and the fore rail was filled there shouldn't be movements. Also, the little extra weight will be fine. Just the same it's still neat-o if I could only find more/any magazines.0 -
I own the same gun in .300 win mag. The company was slocated an hour from where I grew up so I went there and bought it straight from the factory. The rifle was too modern looking for german hunters that is why the company went bankrupt. 0
