Blueing Discoloration Question

I have a Ruger that has a reddish cast to the blue on the frame and the ejector shroud. Does anyone know what causes this ? I have an identical gun and the blue is uniform all over. Thanks, -Don[:)]

  This is because the receiver is a casting and the content of the metal.
  If you're using Brownells salt, add the solution to the salt for this purpose. If using other salts, try using a slightly ower or higher temperature.

  One of the things that most of us don't think about is calling the company. Ruger has had a very good reputation for taking care of legitimate customer complaints. I would call and inquire about what the problem may have been and ask about their solution. Don't ask the phone person but go straight to customer service. If you don't get a satisfactory answer from them, ask to speak to a manager and keep going up the ladder if you feel that it's necessary.
  
  It is Ruger's problem and they should offer to refinish it for you. I knew one of the previous people that ran the bluing department and he said that they did this as a common practice.

  If customer service doesn't offer it, you may want to ask if they can send you a FEDEX or UPS pickup ticket. If you have to pay shipping yourself from a carrier's customer service counter, it will cost you $40-50. (Or, if you have a relationship with a local gun shop, they may ship it USPS for you at a much lower rate.)

  Thanks guys, I was just curious more than anything. The gun is a Ruger Hawkeye and I'm not interested in having it reblued. -Don

  early Rugers where noted for have redish color to their blueing on their revolovers , usually you will find it in the front of the frame in the area of the base pin hole / ejector shroud ect. just leave it alone , its normal and in some cases can increase the value of the piece
