Looking for a model 12 in 20ga. or 12ga. made in 1953. What ser. # range would I be looking for?

Can a winchester model 12 12 gauge 2 3/4" chamber be modified ( have chamber lenghtened) to shoot 3" shells
The reason i ask is i own a model 12 roit gun (watts commemorative edition[:D]) which is in like new condition. I would like to purchase a extra barrel/ mag,forearm which i see a lot of on ebay. I would like to have a spare duck gun realize the new set up will have to be fitted .What i really wanted was a 12 heavy duck

Good morning mraderm946, welcome to the forum. Well I can tell you that it was made in early 1923! (S/Ns 304315-346319, for 1923, Ref. Riffle) You have a nice "Nickle Steel" Md 12. If you look at the barrel where it's stamped with Winchester Md 12, you should see "Nickle Steel" also. These guns usually bring about 10-20% more, than guns that are stamped with Winchester Proof Steel. Assuming you measured the barrel correctly, ( with the breech bolt closed, from the face of the bolt to the end of the muzzle).
What you don't tell me, is it a 12, 16, or 20ga.? Is it a "Plain barrel" or does it have what is known as a Solid rib, ( a raised piece of solid metal that runs the length of the barrel? What is the choke, Full, Modified, or Cyl. Any rust, pits, deep scratches, orgouges in the metal or wood. Does the butt stock have a recoil pad, or is it the black hard rubber butt plate? How is the bluing, stong, or is there a lot of "silver" showing on the receiever?
If you can answer those questions, a more accurate price can be determined. If it's a 12 ga. with a 28 in. plain barrel, Modified choke, it could be worth as little as $300 or above $500 in average condition. Get back to us. Regards Dave0
