high-caps for 10/22: which is better?
I just got the latest Cheaper Than Dirt catalog, they have two 25 round mags for the 10/22, a condor with steel lips and a butler creek with plastic lips. Which should be better quality/last longer? I would think the steel lipped would be better, but I have never heard of condor and have no idea what kind of overall quality they deliver. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

any plastic will usually not last as long as steel. I believe Butler Creek also makes steel lipped mags for the 10/22.
I also have never heard of condor. Anybody else?

I have both brands. Yes, BK makes both styles. Although I haven't had problems with plastic I can't help but feel steel would be more durable.

I have a couple of Eagle pre-ban 30-rounders. They have a cast metal top (with feed lips) and are completely reliable. They are inconvnient though cause they stick down too far. I hardly ever use them though they are always loaded and handy. 0 -
Sir, I have never heard of the Condor either. However, at one time my shop tried about all the large capacity mags for the 10-22. I had a high school kid that hung around alot and he could screw up a two car parade. I would let him have a couple of whatever I was trying at the time and if they survived they were good magazines. The RamLines were junk. The Eagle and Butler Creek with the steel lips were the best. I liked the Eagles because they had a spring that wound up under the follower as the ammo was expended. I thought it was more reliable. However the Butler Creeks gave no trouble. 0 -
Do not buy the condor. I had a couple and they did not function at all. Go with butler creek. If you want the BC steel lips they are a little pricey.

Condor clips NEVER functioned reliably in any of my 10/22's. I bought three of them and tried them in several guns, they jammed consistently with any ammo. Go with the BK's. 0 -

I just opened up my new Butler Creek 25 rd mag, and it is junk! The mag would not feed ammo into the chamber properly and the last 6 rounds had to be shaken out of the clip because the spring would not push them up. I would not buy one.

A little tip about after market hi-cap mags and any firearm they are used in, including 10/22, ATM or tec-22.
On the Eagle mags, the instructions are very clear that they need to be inserted a couple or three times to allow the plastic to conform to that particular gun. That would suggest they would only function best in the original gun after that.
I believe this is true of Ramlines as well.
They will work best in the original gun they were fitted in, the plastic conforms to that gun. Even the instructiuons on the eagle magfs says so. again, this suggests that used mags are not the way to go.
On any of these mags, in any gun, if you are having problems with jams, be sure the mags are inserted fully in the mag well. Lock them in, then wiggle them up, secure them with some enthusiasm in the mag well. That is to say, make sure they are fully inserted, some of them will appear to lock-in but will not really be in the proper position. This will at least reduce the feed problems.
By the way, BC and Condors will not work in the Tec-22, and Eagles are iffy. Use RamLines in Tec 22.
Condors are a copy of BC. The quality of the Condors varies. Some are fine, others (probably late production, when they were really in mass product mode prior to ban) are not so good, quality wise.
Again, if the mag seems to be giving you problems, insert it and wiggle it forcefully up into the mag well. This even solves many jamming problems using Ramlines on the Tec-22.
BC has been considered the best for quite some time, but remember, these are all basically cheap after market mags. You may run into quality issues with any of them.
Eagles mags were always considered good, back when they were cheap (and they may become cheap again), but I have seen a few with broke feed lips. Big problem with Eagles is breaking feed lips. If they are $15.00 each, no big deal, back when the ban was on and they were $50 to $100, well, not so good.
If you want real reliability, go with the factory 10 round mags.

I have a couple Butler Creed which I bought new and they would never feed proplerly ... I've found it to be easier/faster to use the factory 10's than clearing a mis-feed ... kinda like using stripper-clips on an SKS instead of a 30rounder.
Maybe now that the AWB is dead, I'll buy a 10/22 receiver from Brownells or somewhere and build a pistol ... maybe then they'll work [:p].If you really want to do something, you'll find a way ...
