Mossberg 500 sights
I just picked up a mossberg 500 on the cheap for home defense. It came with a gold post front site which really doesnt work for me.. any suggestions?

Home defense piece ... paint the sight white or some other color that you like ... or just ignore it. For the use you stated it's "point and shoot", not precision shooting.
Spend the money you would have spent on a new front sight on a universal, mini-mag light holder.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Put a replacement front sight on it like Hi-Viz or Tru-Glo.

Hi bugieman,
D@D probably has the idea. I did this to my Mossberg Cruiser. Beleive it or not Wal-Mart stocks them, which is where I got mine. The set costs about $20.00 and it comes with different front sight bead screw sizes, one of which will fit the Mossberg. The set comes with different brightly colored inserts called "light pipes". Put in the color that works best for you. I you don't like it - change it. I would also put a little dab of locktite on the threads.

I find the bead on my 870 fine for defensive use. You would be amazed how fast and accurate that bead can be. The only thing I suggest for a home defense weapon is a good light. 0 -
Thanks to all. I bought a set of Tru-Glo with the "lite pipes" that Heavy suggested and it looks great. Very easy to pick up
