winchester us mod 30 1903

i am in desperate need of information.i recently purchased a winchester us mod 30 lever action with a stamp date 1903( i beleive to be a 30-06 cal. )
it is in great shape ,top load holds 5 rounds .the barrel is removable(and rifled)it also has an ajustable rear sight.the wood finish is plain deep oak? colored.any information on this gun ruff price or where i can get an owners manual would be greatly appreciated. thank you

    Sounds like a model 95 Winchester in caliber .30 U.S., also known as the 30-40 Krag, lever action, 5 shot top loading.

    I agree with the 95 ident. If you could give all the markings and location maybe more info could be given. The caliber[if in fact 30]could be 30-03.30-40,30-06,or even7.62 Russian. Serial number wouldn't hurt.Original wood would be walnut.

    will get and post all info that i can .want to thank you both.i dont believe its a 30-40.the shells would not eject from gun after loading 30-40 .have loaded 30-06 shells and ejected no problem.one other note the front sight is marked "marble"

    The caliber of this rifle really needs to be checked out completely.

    I don't know much about the Winchester Model 95, but I am more familiar with the cartridges of this time period. In my opinion, there are three possibilites for its caliber until confirmed by someone who really knows their Model 95's.

    1. .30 Army or Government (.30-40 Krag)
    2. .30-03
    3. .30-06

    The Model 95 rifle was chambered for all three of these cartridges. If this rifle was really made in 1903, the .30-06 would not yet have existed - only in the models made after 1906. The rifle was made between 1896 and 1931.

    thanks all.after some more examination of the rifle,it does say"model 1895 winchester.serial #71382 b "under the lever.rear adjustable sight does say "lymans pattern june 25 95.under the sight says man by winchester new HAVEN CT NOV 5 95,AUG 17 97,NOV 12 95 JAN 25 98.the rifle is in great shape dont think it was ever reblued.stock is also in good shape.greatly appreciate anymore info and ruff idea what it might be worth.thanks all

    Your Winchester Model 1895 sounds very intrusting. From the information that you have given your rifle is marked "30 U.S.", in the Model 1895 this always means the .30-40 Krag service cartridge. However, if the caliber marking is "30 U.S. 1903" then your rifle is chambered for the 1903 .30 caliber service cartridge. This cartridge is not the same as the .30-06. The serial number which you gave, puts the year of production in the 1914 range rather then 1903. If the barrel length of your rifle is 28 inches then it is chambered for the .30-40 Krag cartridge as this was the standard barrel length for the .30-40 Krag. If on the other hand the barrel length of your rifle is 24 inches then it is chambered for either the 1903 (.30-03) cartridge or the 1906 (.30-06) cartridge as this was the standard barrel length for these two cartridges.
    The Lyman patent dates means that your rifle is equipped with Lyman sights. If the rear sight has a long lever on the left side of the receiver, then the rear sight is a Lyman Model 21 rear sight which adds value to the rifle.
    You said that the rifle was a take down. This feature adds about 15% to the rifles value.
    All in all if the rifle is in as good a shape as you say plus the special features, I think the rifle would fall into the $2500-$3000 range.
