Anybody know where to get scope bases? I can't find anything in Brownell's or Cabella's sites.
I gat a good deal on the action in the 70's, put a Shilen MW sporter barrel in 6.5-06 and a Fajen stock on it and immediately got shipped out of Wyoming (it was going to be a pronghorn rifle). It's been in the box since, but now I'm back in Wyoming and need to scope it.

    I ran across a rifle for sale with this action. I only knew about the Mauser 98. Is this one comparable or an improvement?

    My reference notes, although it has the Mauser name on it it was made for them by the F. W. Heym Co., also located in what was then West Germany.

    The Heym made Mausers were made as Models 2000 & 4000 as well as being sold under the Heym name as the Model SR 20.

    My WAG is, since the above actions date from the 70's it was made to accept standard European bases used during that era. Call the techs at Brownells, hopefully they could give you guidance on what could work. If the action is already drilled give them the dimensions of the hole pattern, make a radius gauge of heavy paper of the top of receiver where bases are located. Note that the threaded holes are for metric screws.

    Mauser Model 3000 [built for Montgomery Wards(Western Field) and called a model 770A EHM].

    Redfield use to make a JR base for the 3000. I have one on my left hand 375 H&H. I looked at it but I can't find a number. I looked in a old Shooters Bible and they list Weaver mounts # 68 rear and 46 front.

    My Mauser Model 3000 was made by Mauser in Oberndorf. Sold thru a company named Bauer in Michigan. I had no trouble in finding a mount, a Weaver, but this was ten years ago. Just walked into a small sporting goods store and told them what I wanted.

    Pearyw--Thanks a lot. I finally got around to going to the local hole-in-the-wall gun shop the other day and asked for the Weaver 68 and 46 bases. The guy dug around in a shoe box sized container (had hundreds of bases in it) and came up with the bases. Took them home--they fit perfectly.

    God bless the little local gun shops. I always support them and hope everyone else does too.
