Info On Shotgun Ammo

I just bought at auction a Iver Johnson Champion Single Barrel 28ga. shotgun. This one has a 28" barrel (says lug forged), and is in excellent shape. Being made probably in the 30s or 40s can I shoot modern ammo in this gun safley? Model#180xx [?]

  Hi pogybate,
  
  The Champion was made between 1909 and 1956.
  
  As long as the shotgun is in good shape mechanically, that is it the break action lock up tightly, and the barrel has not be damaged, it should handle the current ammo without any problems.
  
  I have an old Essex 12 gauge single barrel cut down to 18.5 inches and have shot 2.75 inch magnums for 30 years with no ill effect.

  Thanks for the info Heavy, I thought I read it was OK in a prior Forum Message but I forgot where I saw it. No problem with this gun, its in mint condition for its age[:D] Neil

  early 28ga were 2 7/8". modern is 2 3/4". you shouldnt have a problem.
