Walther PPK/S(38)(S&W) or Sig P239(9mm)

Which of these "personal" handguns would you recommend on the basis of quality and reliability? I'm leaning to the PPK/S...it fits my hand better...but that spec ranks below quality and reliability. Would your answer be the same if the PPK/S was mfg in Ulm, Germany?

    Hi! I can't speak for the "Sig's",but the pre "Interarms" (pre 1979) Walther PPK/S is pure German high quality. SOME of the Interarms units were still made in Germany,with later ones made under licsense from Walther,and are OK.The made by Interarms ones are, IMHO, poor quality,and since Interarms is out of business,you got no where to turn for warranty. Can't speak for the Newer PPK/S made by S&W either,but generally Smith doesn't make junk.
    Use the search function on this forum for PPK/S. Lots of good info!

    While I agree with 9acres 100% as to the quality of the W. Germany guns, I can't recommend one in .380 unless you have actually fired it. I found that it "smacks" my hand so hard it hurts. My firing sessions sounded like, "Bang. Ouch! Bang. Ouch! Bang. Ouch!".

    Besides, there's little reason to get the /S version, since it is unnecessarily large. My choice would be a .32 PPK with "Dural" aluminum frame, or even one with the steel frame, but they are hard to find.

    Well I can speak to the Sig 239 (40 cal). My sister-im-law just picked one up and asked me to test fire it. Off to the range I went and was very impressed with it.

    While it is about the same size as my carry weapon (Glock 27 in 357Sig), I prefer the Glock only because in the same package it carries 10 rounds as opposed to 7 in the Sig. It is a fine made gun and performs very well.

    I am not a fan of the 9mm round.

    I used to have a H&K 4 which was a PPK copy with the ability to shoot 4 different calibers. I only had the .380 barrel for it.

    It was a very well made gun but it was not comfortable to shoot. The trigger guard would dig into my fingers upon recoil. I couldn't shoot more than a few rounds through it.

    Considering it was only a .380 and I didn't like shooting it I sold it. If you are looking for concealment they are nicely sized. But a Sig 239 is IMO a much better handgun.

    I have my eyes on a Kahr 9mm for a small concealed carry gun. Hope to shoot one to see if it's less painful to shoot.
